Renewing the Promise of Medicare Advantage
Make Medicare Advantage Great Again
A Project Of American Commitment
Our Mission
Renewing the Promise of Medicare Advantage is committed to fixing Medicare Advantage with commonsense policy reforms that benefit patients by restoring accountability and transparency and ending the abuses of the health insurance industry.
“Despite… oversight efforts, [Medicare Advantage Organizations] continue to defraud the American taxpayer, costing them billions of dollars a year.”
—U.S. Senator Charles Grassley (R-Iowa)
“The U.S. healthcare system is overwhelmed by wasteful spending, and it’s time for real reform.”
— Steve Forbes
What went wrong with Medicare Advantage?
Established in 1997, Medicare Advantage created new coverage options for patients provided by private insurers. The concept was great. It offered Medicare recipients with greater choice and flexibility compared to traditional Medicare. It also fostered marketplace competition and private sector innovation, which delivered savings to patients and taxpayers.
But the benefits of Medicare Advantage have eroded because private insurers have gamed the system. They’re charging too much—and hiding the charges. They’re delaying and denying care. They’re abandoning patients in rural communities. And worse. We need reforms that make health insurers accountable and bring transparency to every Medicare Advantage plan.
What happened to competition?
Three big insurance companies now control more than 60% of the Medicare Advantage market. And they don’t just control insurance. They steer patients to their own pharmacies, physician groups, hospitals, and clinics. This drives up costs, limits access, and compromises care.
What can we do?
We can fix Medicare Advantage! The program is broken, but its promised benefits, cost savings, and flexibility are worth saving—and improving. It’s time to tell federal and state officials to take action to put Medicare Advantage back on track.
